[email protected] | (334) 386-0624 | v-CardReid Cavnar joined Stifel in 2014 through its acquisition of Merchant Capital and has more than 25 years of experience in municipal finance. His practice focuses on the natural gas and public power sector, assisting municipal utilities and their large industrial customers in obtaining discounted natural gas and electricity through tax-exempt prepayment transactions. Mr. Cavnar also has extensive experience providing debt analysis and debt restructuring alternatives for a broad range of municipal entities, including cities, counties, utilities, and K-12 public schools and representing these clients before rating agencies, bond insurers, and institutional investors.
Prior to entering public finance, Mr. Cavnar served on the staff of U.S. Senator Richard Shelby in a variety of roles, including as a Professional Staff Member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, where his primary responsibilities involved drafting the Appropriations legislation for the U.S. Department of Transportation. Previously, Mr. Cavnar served as a Legislative Assistant to U.S. Representative Jim Talent.
Mr. Cavnar earned an M.A. from Georgetown University and a B.A. from Montreat College and maintains the Series 50, 52, and 63 licenses.
